LIPA and HBO Partner for Energy Efficiency Upgrades at Hauppauge Facility
LIPA to Host First Annual Energy Efficiency Conference for Long Island Businesses Conference will help businesses like HBO save energy and money
Uniondale, N.Y.—The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) has partnered with Home Box Office (HBO) to help fund energy efficiency measures in their expansion of an existing Communications Center facility by participating in LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency Program. The project is expected to save HBO approximately $200,000 annually in electric costs.
Together with the assistance of LIPA contractor, TRC, HBO participated in the Whole Building Component of LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency Program and expanded its facility in Hauppauge, Long Island. The energy efficiency measures implemented include high efficiency air conditioning equipment, LED lighting and occupancy sensors, roof and wall insulation, and variable speed controls on all system pumps.
“It is encouraging to have local businesses like HBO participate in LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency Program,” said LIPA Chief Operating Officer Michael D. Hervey. “By becoming more energy efficient, local businesses can sharpen their competitive edge by lowering operating costs, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, and become true green leaders in Long Island’s business community.”
By employing LIPA’s Whole Building Comprehensive approach, it is estimated that HBO will save 1,300,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) for a reduction of $200,000 per year in electric energy costs. In addition, HBO received significant LIPA rebates to help offset the cost of the project.
The efficiency measures installed by HBO will reduce LIPA’s peak demand by 276 kilowatts (kW), which is enough to power approximately 144 average-sized Long Island homes, and represents energy cost savings that exceed NYS Energy Conservation Code by 19%.
LIPA is committed to working with business customers to implement energy solutions that help companies thrive on Long Island. On February 14, 2012, LIPA is hosting its first annual Energy Efficiency Conference for Long Island Businesses at the Hilton Long Island/Huntington in Melville, N.Y. Over 350 large and small businesses will have the opportunity to interact with LIPA’s energy efficiency staff and other industry professionals and energy experts, who will show them how energy efficiency can save their business energy and money and what LIPA rebates and incentives may be available to them. While the conference has sold out, businesses can find out more information about LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency programs at http://www.lipower.org/commercial.
Energy efficiency is the single most cost-effective way to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. It can provide long-term savings that go directly back to a company’s bottom line. LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency Program has already lowered energy costs for thousands of local businesses.
The Commercial Efficiency Program is one component of LIPA’s Efficiency Long Island. Efficiency Long Island is a customer–funded, 10-year, $924 million energy efficiency program which offers a wide array of incentives, rebates and initiatives to LIPA’s residential and commercial customers to assist them in reducing their energy usage and thereby lowering their bills.
