Statement from Long Island Power Authority President and CEO Kevin S. Law on Governor Paterson's State of the State Address

I commend Governor Paterson for his bold initiatives to put New York on the right track for economic recovery. As a member of the Governor's Renewable Energy Task Force, Climate Action Council and Stimulus Funding Cabinet, I look forward to working with the Governor to achieve the State's "45x15" goals with a multi-pronged approach. These efforts include LIPA’s Efficiency Long Island program, a 10-year, $924 million energy efficiency program designed to reduce peak energy demand, a 50MW Solar Energy Project, and the LI-NYC Offshore Wind Collaborative. Not only will New York position itself as a global leader in clean and renewable energy, but these projects and programs will serve as a catalyst to create new clean energy jobs in our area.

LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric provider, owns the retail electric Transmission and Distribution System on Long Island and provides electric service to more than 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens. LIPA is the 2nd largest municipal electric utility in the nation in terms of electric revenues, 3rd largest in terms of customers served and the 7th largest in terms of electricity delivered. In 2008, LIPA outperformed all other overhead electric utilities in New York State for frequency of service interruptions, and ranked second for duration of service interruptions. LIPA does not provide natural gas service or own any on-island generating assets. More information about LIPA can be found online at: http://www.lipower.org.
