Community United Methodist Church,
Massapequa
10 kW System

“I am a member of the Community United Methodist Church and personally
funded the installation of a 10 kW PV array for the church with the
help of LIPA’s PV rebate and New York State’s Tax Credit programs. "

"With a focus on energy conservation, approximately 1/3 of the
church’s annual electric load will be captured from the PV array. I
am always encouraging homeowners to install a PV system on their
roofs - renewable energy is so beneficial to our environment. “

Lydia Calabrese, Babylon
600 Watt System

"PV is a wonderful thing. As a high school science teacher, I
encourage my students to be environmentally aware, to use our
resources wisely and to rely less on fossil fuels. I also encourage
my family to be environmentally responsible, which we are doing as
LIPA Solar Pioneers."

Carol Caputo, East Patchogue
1.4 kW PV System

"I have been an avid follower of solar for many years, and when I
found out about LIPA’s Solar Pioneer Program incentives, I decided
to install PV on a cottage behind my house. Solar is good for the
environment. I am also a conservative user of energy, utilize
compact fluorescent light bulbs and looking into energy efficiency
appliances for my home to maximize the benefits of producing
electricity with PV."

Hari Dathatri, Farmingdale
3 kW System

"Investing in a PV system enables me to contribute toward energy
conservation while also helping LIPA reduce its peak load. I own a
2,400 square foot home and produce about 6,000 kWh of electricity a
year. Through solar power and net metering [which turns the meter
backward when more energy is provided than the homeowner needs], my
LIPA bill is very close to zero."

Robert Griffin, Massapequa
1.8 kW System

“I’ve been interested in solar electricity for 20 years. New
technical improvements and financial support from LIPA make it a
great, safe and clean alternative to oil. It’s also an economical,
long-term investment: I have seen my meter run backwards on sunny
days continuously from about 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., which
supplements about two-thirds of my LIPA electric bill in the
summer.”

Tom and Elena Hood, Westhampton Beach
2.752 kW System

"We are very committed to environmental issues, which is why we
decided to ‘go solar.’ We also have a solar thermal system that
provides most of our hot water. The PV panels installed through
LIPA’s Solar Pioneer Program are aesthetically pleasing and, from
the front, our house looks just like any other."

Joan Keville, Bellmore,
600 Watt PV System (PV Lottery – 1998)

"I’m very interested in solar technology and feel it is important
that we all contribute toward a cleaner environment. Alternative
energy sources like solar power are a great way to do that. I also
use energy-efficient, compact fluorescent light bulbs in my house."

Frank and Sophia Metzger, Centereach
1.2 kW System

"People have to realize that we need to reduce our reliance on
fossil fuels. Renewable energy is a great place to start. If
everybody’s house had a PV system, or if all new homes being built
had solar panels already on them, homeowners would immediately cut
their use of power in half."

Richard Miller, Bethpage
1.2 kW System

"PV is coming to the point where it is a more practical, affordable
application. I’m delighted to be a LIPA Solar Pioneer and would
personally like to double the size of my current PV system."

Marie Pendzich, Albertson
2.2 kW System

"As an active member of the Long Island Sierra Club, I am dedicated
to environmental causes. LIPA’s Solar Pioneer Program came at a
perfect time for me, saving me 40 percent on the cost of my PV
system through Program rebates and the New York State Tax Credit
Program. I’m very happy to do my part to contribute towards a
cleaner environment."

Dan Sabia, North Bellmore
10 kW System

“When I heard about LIPA’s Solar Pioneer Program, I took advantage
of it to install a PV system on the roof of my home, my garage, and
also a ground mounted system in a section of my backyard. All three
PV systems total 10kW and will offset my electrical load by 90%.
From the first day my PV system began operating, I physically
witnessed the meter turning backwards. The use of PV systems in
homes throughout Long Island will help us conserve fossil fuels."

Ken Vianest, Hicksville
600 Watt System

"We need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Solar panels will
eventually be the answer as a source of alternative power. In
addition to PV panels on my roof, I have replaced 95 percent of the
incandescent lighting throughout my house with energy-efficient,
compact fluorescent light bulbs. These two technologies combined
decreased my electric bill last year by nearly $200."

Michael and Peggy Wright, Massapequa
600 Watt System

"We entered LIPA’s PV Lottery to do our share to help the
environment and to save money on our energy costs. And that’s
exactly what we’re doing!"
