RECAP ESCOs
The following is a list of ESCOs and the type of customer
they service.
Who is eligible to participate in RECAP?
This energy efficiency program is available to the following
customers on the LIPA system: commercial customers, government
facilities and multi-family residences having more than four (4)
apartments.
How can a customer participate?
Customers may be contacted by the ESCOs directly, or they
can call or email one or more ESCOs.
What energy-saving measures are covered?
- Lighting upgrades (retrofit and new fixtures)
- Lighting Controls
- Roof-top HVAC units
- Refrigeration upgrades
- Motors and VFD’s (variable frequency drives)
- Energy Management Systems
- Retro-commissioning of HVAC equipment
Which ESCO do I choose?
There are several ESCOs for each category of customer. This is
based on your rate code. Offers from ESCOs can differ so, it is
best to get several offers and then choose the one that best
suits your needs.
How do I pay for the equipment?
The RECAP program agreement is negotiated between the customer
and the ESCO and will spell out the project equipment, schedule
and financial arrangements unique to your application.
Once I choose a ESCO, what happens next?
The ESCO will arrange to visit your site, evaluate electric
equipment for retrofit or replacement. They will recommend
upgrades, and you decide whether or not to accept their
proposal. Once the offer is agreed upon, the contractor sends
the project to LIPA for approval. LIPA may send a representative
to perform a pre-inspection. Once LIPA approval takes place,
work can begin. When work is complete, LIPA performs a post
installation inspection to verify the installed equipment before
the ESCO is approved for payment.
How does the ESCO get paid?
You and the ESCO will agree upon a price that you will be
charged for the work being performed at your site. Since LIPA is
paying the ESCO an incentive for the energy savings actually
achieved at your site as well as other locations, the amount you
actually pay will only be a fraction of the actual cost of the
job. Best of all, the money you
