Newbridge Road Connector Project

LIPA has built an underground electric transmission line to connect three substations that form part of the backbone of Long Island's transmission system. The line was needed to receive and distribute the power that is being delivered to LIPA’s Newbridge Road Substation through the Neptune Regional Transmission System that was built under the Atlantic Ocean from Sayreville, New Jersey. The Newbridge Road Connector has also enhanced system reliability by reinforcing and increasing the capability of existing transmission capacity.

The line complies with all applicable federal, state and local environmental and safety requirements. Most of the line has been placed about 3-1/2 feet underground in existing LIPA, Long Island Rail Road, New York State Department of Transportation and New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation rights-of-way. There are no permanent visual, land use, noise or other environmental impacts.
