Programs & Services

LIPA's Economic Development programs and services have a common goal: to help our commercial/industrial customers become more profitable by helping them manage their energy demands. Whether your company is expanding, relocating or starting up, LIPA’s Economic Development team of professionals can serve as your single point of contact for accessing Long Island’s wealth of economic and governmental programs and services. In addition, they can help you identify the energy-related strategies that best meet the needs of your business.

Here is a brief look at some of the elements that make up the Economic Development Programs.

Business Development Assistance:
Business Development Assistance helps companies develop new marketing opportunities for their products. Our export assistance program - and an R&D Initiative that provides funding to companies who develop innovative technologies for use in the energy utility industry - may open the door to new markets. LIPA also provides coordinated access to state and local financial and training programs through the Long Island Partnership and can provide relocation assistance.

Economic Development Electric Rate Incentives
Incentives provided to qualified customers have resulted in more than $65 million in savings for more than 300 qualified Long Island businesses in the following categories:

  • Business Attraction/Expansion Rate
For non-retail customers who move to Long Island or who significantly expand their operations on Long Island.
  • Business Incubator Rate
For graduates of New York State - sponsored incubator programs.
  • Empire Zone Rate
For customers who expand or relocate to the certified zones within Islip and Brookhaven Townships, other locations within Suffolk County or in Far Rockaway.
  • Manufacturing Competitiveness Rate
For manufacturing customers who qualify for New York State's Industrial Effectiveness program to improve their competitive position.

Clean Energy:
LIPA provides rebate incentives and consultation services to eligible commercial/industrial customers who install qualifying energy-efficient technologies as part of their renovation or new construction projects. Learn more

Load Shifting Options:
Load Shifting Options allow new program participants to permanently lower their electric rates by shifting their electric use away from LIPA's most critical load period - summer weekdays between 3PM and 10PM.
